During the last few days of summer, relax, unwind and let your dreams fly high
The Berkeley Kite Festival held July 30th at the Cesar E. Chavez Park, located on the north side of the Berkeley Marina in the San Francisco Bay, was a celebration of colors, fun, family and friends. It’s a great place to relax, unwind, bring a kite, buy a kite, make a kite, learn how to fly a kite, and enjoy great food, music and the amazing artistry of professional kite flyers.
This annual festival is held during the last weekend of July, bringing together people from all walks of life. I never get tired of hearing little kids squeal in delight when they see all the kites flying up in the sky, especially the ones that are as big as a house. I watched retirees getting together, lining up their lawn chairs in the best viewing spot for the kite flying demonstrations and kite battles. I couldn’t take my eyes off this woman and the young boy who did a fabulous job of keeping his handmade paper kite flying high in the sky. Nor could I stop looking at the young couple holding hands as they sat on their picnic blanket enjoying the refreshingly cool breeze.
What a great way to spend the last days of summer and let go of your cares, to imagine them attached to your kite and sending them up, up and away to leave them up in the clouds. It’s also a chance to pin your hopes and dreams to your kite—to let it fly and soar up to the heavens so you’ll remember to keep looking up to find your dreams and to never look down and feel discouraged.
Before summer comes to an end, go fly a kite and celebrate the wind, blue skies, and let it soar with your spirit, hopes and dreams.
